Sophie Cowen is an activist for radical environmentalist group Extinction Rebellion. On 7 April 2021 Cowen participated in a protest at the London headquarters of multinational bank Barclays. Cowen was protesting alongside six other women, Carol Wood, Gabriella Ditton, Lucy Porter, Nicola Stickells, Rosemary Webster and Zoe Cohen. Cowen and the other women deliberately smashed glass windows at Barclays causing £100,000 in damage.[1]

On 5 December 2022 Cowen was convicted of criminal damage by jury. Cowen is awaiting sentencing and faces up to 18 months imprisonment.[2]

Unlike the other women, Cowen has no previous convictions.[3]
