Prevailing wisdom in Western nations is that men have significantly higher sex drives than women.

Men are driven to ejaculate but this is necessary for prostate health and not directly related to the desire to have sex.
Evidence women will want sex but not initiate with their partners anyway. They'll just go away frustrated. If true it implies that women as a group are over-reliant on their partners to initiate.
Some research suggests women complain about lack of sex in relationships as much. Research that suggests the opposite often comes from sex therapists. Women are less likely to complain or seek outside help if they are missing out. They tend to suffer in silence.
The pill reduces female libido. We have a society in which a large proportion of women are inadvertently suppressing their own sex drive. Thus the current behaviour of women may not be consistent with history.
