Since the enforcement began, there have been 167 reports of misogyny. Of these, 68 were treated as hate crimes, including public order offences, harassment and assault, and 99 were treated as hate incidents, such as intimidating behaviour, inappropriate sexual comments and verbal abuse. The reports have led to four arrests and one charge.

"Incidents against women that are motivated by an attitude of a man towards a woman and includes behavior targeted towards a woman by men simply because they are a woman."

Any approach by a heterosexual man towards a woman intent on romance could thus be considered a hate crime. Further, this has such broad scope that virtually any interaction could be considered

Hate Incident

Nottinghamshire Police define hate incidents and hate crimes as:

A hate incident is any incident which is perceived, by the victim or any other person, to be motivated by hostility, hate or prejudice. If a hate incident breaks the law, it becomes a criminal offence and therefore a hate crime.

The dependence on perception clearly opens this up to abuse. The alleged victim may be genuine in their perception that they experienced hostility, hate or prejudice but this is of no value to police intelligence. Despite this, Nottinghamshire report hate incidents.
