Liam Allan is a British man that was falsely accused of Rape in 2016. Liam Allan went to trial in 2017. During the trial the prosecution submitted 2418 pages worth of texts on the complaintant's phone. This evidence had not been previously seen by the defence. The defence reviewed the evidence and found an admission by the complainant that she had consented to sex with Liam Allan.[1][2]
The trial of Liam Allan collapsed.[3][4]
In 2021 Victim's Commissioner Vera Baird campaigned to prevent British police from accessing complainants phones calling it a digital strip search. Complainants phones often include exculpatory evidence as they did in the case of Liam Allan.
