Andrius Vengalis is a British man who was falsely accused of the murdering his wife Egle Vengaliene. Mr Vengalis woke to find his wife missing. He went searching for her and found her face down in a river about 3m from the bank. He then attempted to resuscitate his wife. A witness, Robert McDonald, initially believed that Mr Vengalis was trying to throttle his wife but then realised that he was trying to resuscitate her. Mr McDonald took over the resuscitation attempt.

A few hours later Mr Vengalis was arrested and charged with her murder. Mr Vengalis spent nine months in custody before his trial in which the prosecution offered no evidence.
