Editors writing articles should make their best effort to comply with the style guide but the priority should be adding content. Editors that notice articles deviating from the style guide should correct them. Failure to comply with the style guide is not grounds for having content removed.

Template

Wiki4Men is making more use of Mediawiki templates.

Templates should be placed immediately before the References line. If there are no references place templates immediately before categories. If there are no categories add the page to the relevant templates below.

Templates should have a full line between them to stop the text running together.

Articles lacking relevant templates should have them added on discovery.

Template Relevance
Template:Bio Biographies of individual people, living or dead
Template:Draft Articles not yet ready to be published
Template:Featured Articles ready to be published on A Voice for Men and selected as random articles
Template:Feminism Articles that relate to feminism
Template:Glossary Short articles providing an explanation about a term or concept
Template:History Articles about historical subjects, including biographies of historical figures
Template:Wikipedia Articles drawn wholly or partly from Wikipedia

Other special purpose templates may exist.

Featured Articles

There is no minimum length for a Featured Article however the article must be written in complete English sentences. If a featured article grows beyond two pages consideration should be given to breaking it up into smaller articles.

Dot points must still be in complete English sentences but may lack trailing full stops. A set of dot points should be consistent in this matter.

Article names should use the full name of organisations, events and phrases rather than abbreviations or acronyms even when they are in widespread use. Eg, The article for the British political party should be Justice for Men and Boys rather than J4MB even though the latter is in common use online. Wiki links from elsewhere on the site may link to commonly used abbreviations or acronyms as long as a redirect is put in place if it doesn't already exist. Eg, A link to J4MB would be acceptable as long as it goes to the article for Justice for Men and Boys.

Featured articles may have See Also, Files and External Links sections. Subsections to each of these are permissible if the number of entries justifies it.

See Also

See Also contains other links on this wiki that are relevant or similar to the article. These links can and often are repetitions of links in the article body.

Files

The files section contains files that have been uploaded to the wiki.

External Links

External Links contain URLs to external sites. Raw URLs must not be displayed.

Order

  • See Also
  • Files
  • External Links

If an editor discovers a Featured Article that they believe is in a poor state and cannot be easily fixed, they should change it to a Draft Article.

Glossary

Articles in the glossary normally provide a definition. If an article in the glossary grows beyond two paragraphs consideration should be given to breaking it in to smaller articles.

Referencing people

A person should normally be introduced with as accurate a name as possible. If their full name is known, then this should be used. Otherwise use their first and last name if it is known. In a few cases only a first or last name will be known and the person can be introduced like this. In following references victims and those who have made a positive contribution to men's rights or anti-feminism should be referred to by first and last name or title and last name. All others will be referred to by last name only in following references.

Unknown Persons

If the name of a person is unknown then they can be given a serial number corresponding to the number of minutes since the beginning of the Unix epoch. On a Unix system the command date +%s | cut -b 1-8 will provide this number which is unique for each minute. Give the article a name such as Unknown 16724168. The article can be renamed later if the person's actual name becomes known.

Quotes

When sourcing a quote place the ref tags inside the blockquote tags.

Citations

Citations should be used where the information is not likely to be generally known or is contentious. Important citations should be archived with archive.is or a similar site with the archived reference placed after the original reference. Wiki4Men has already had many references go stale and the use of archival sites will reduce the damage of this occuring in future.

Categories

Categories should be listed in alphabetical order. All categories should be part of a tree ending with the Wiki4Men category at the root.

An article that is still under development should be in the Draft Articles category. This normally occurs as a result of adding the article to the Draft template.

An article which is ready to be displayed should be in the Featured Articles category. Thus all articles should have at minimum one category, Draft Articles or Featured Articles.

Any article chiefly about an individual, or multiple individuals should be in category Biographies, regardless of whether the person is alive of dead. This normally occurs as a result of adding the article to the Biography template.

The article should be in the most appropriate category based on subject matter and, where relevant. There is no limitation on putting an article in multiple categories. There are currently no categories for sub-national jurisdictions, however, such a category could be added if the number of articles warranted it.

An article in the Featured Article category must confirm with the requirements for a Featured Article above.

Any article drawn from another source should be in the category for that source, which itself should be in the Sources category. Thus articles sourced from Wikipedia, in whole or in part, should be in the Wikipedia category.

In general an article should not be in a category and in its subcategories at the same time.

Countries

An article should be in a country category if any one of the categories below are true:

  • In the case of historical articles, the location is today in the country.
  • In the case of biographical articles, the person was born in the country.
  • In the case of biographical articles, the person died in the country.
  • In the case of biographical articles, the person is confirmed as having citizenship in the country.
  • In the case of biographical articles, the person lived in the country for at least one year.
  • The country is directly related to the topic of the article.

Eg, an article on a Moroccan born person who deliberately targetted and harmed Israeli citizens in Germany would be in the categories Germany, Israel and Morocco. There is no limit to the number of relevant country categories an article can be added to.

Sources

Wikipedia

If an article is sourced from Wikipedia, in whole or in part, then please follow the steps below:

  • A permanent link of the page version used should be pasted in to the comment when the article is created. If this does not happen at article creation, it should happen as soon as possible afterwards.
  • The article should be in the Wikipedia template.
