Carol Ann White is a British nurse who was convicted of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. White had attempted to over-take a slow moving vehicle when she struck a motorbicycle rider on the opposite side of the road. As a result of his injuries the rider had a leg amputated and spent three months in intensive care. Despite the judge stating that White had not accepted legal responsibility he sentenced her to community service rather than a term of imprisonment citing her good character and clean record.[1][2]
