In May 2018 Berlinah Wallace was convicted of attacking her former boyfriend, Mark van Dongen by hurling sulphuric acid over most of his body and sentenced to life imprisonment.[1] As a result of this Mr van Dongen was paralized below the neck, lost the sight in one eye and had a leg amputated. Wallace was found not guilty or murder or manslaughter but was found guilty on other charges.
Mr van Dongen subsequently chose to end his own life via euthanasia.[2]
