Bilton School

A report in the local media that several children were sent home that day.

Bilton School (formerly Herbert Kay and Westlands School, and most recently Bilton High School) is a major secondary school with academy status for pupils aged 11–18 situated within the village of Bilton in Rugby, Warwickshire. There were 1,020 students on roll in the 2015-2016 school year, with 69 staff and 17 teaching assistants.

In March 2016, the school was placed in special measures after an Ofsted inspection found it to be inadequate in every area except its sixth form, which followed a serious decline in examination results over the previous two years.

The school received widespread criticism by the British media in July 2025, when during a "cultural day" which sought to celebrate the different cultures of its community, staff isolated a student for wearing a Union Flag dress.

Commentators widely reprehended the school's approach as "ridiculous", politicising the flag and singling out a student for being proud to be British. The school was forced to apologise.

Some sources have stated that the girl was forced to change in to second hand uniform.

Following these events becoming public Bilton School reported having received threats. The school administration made the decision to close early on the last day before school holidays.
