Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).[1] It was first identified in December 2019 in Wuhan, China, and has resulted in an ongoing pandemic.[2][3] The first case may be traced back to 17 November 2019.[4]

Men are approximately twice as likely as women to die from COVID-19 although the reasons for this are unclear. In contrast women are more likely than men to die of ebola virus and tend to suffer more severe illness as a result of zika virus. Despite this feminists routinely claimed that women were more impacted by coronavirus than men.[5] Women are apparently more likely to be impacted by Long Covid a phenomenon in which symptoms of COVID-19 persist long after the initial infection.[6]

In April 2020 an Op Ed in the Huffington Post claimed that old white men would be more likely to spread the disease although this goes against research that has been undertaken.[7]

In May 2020 Clementine Ford tweeted that Honestly, the Corona virus is not killing men fast enough. Ford received significant backlash from the community over this comment and voluntarily gave up a grant from the City of Melbourne.[8][9][10] Ford subsequently issued a backhanded apology.[11]

A study conducted in late 2020 demonstrated that countries led by women have not fared better than those led by men despite widespread feminist claims to the contrary.[12][13] [14][15] Claims of this by feminists and others largely ceased in early 2021.
