Comparision to 2025 Canadian Federal Election

Similarities

There are quite a few similaries between the 2025 federal Australian and Canadian elections.

  • Both were won by centre left parties
  • Both conservative parties were tipped to win in the months before the election but lost support over time
  • The leaders of the main conservative parties lost their seats in both countries
  • The leaders of the main far left parties lost their seats in both countries
  • In each case one major party experienced a significant loss of seats
    • Liberal Party in Australia
    • The New Democratic Party in Canada

Differences

  • The Canadian Liberals were returned with a minority government
  • The Australian Labor Party was returned with a significant majority

Media Bias

The result of this election is comparable in seats to the 2013 Coalition victory, but with a far lower primary vote for the winner. It's really being over-hyped.

Example of the media hype:

Of course Trump wouldn't know who the leader of the opposition of a middle power is.[1]
