UN Women describes the manosphere in negative terms.
UN Women seeks to portray the manosphere as a boogeyman.

The manosphere is a broad term applied to a variety of movements involving men or focused on men's issues. In general participants in the various movements within the manosphere agree on the problems facing men and boys but disagree on how, or even if, they should be addressed. Different groups within the manosphere do not necessarily get on well. Some incels for example argue that MRAs are naive in their approach to men's issues. This has resulted in incels referring to the black pill rather than the red pill.

The manosphere does not include all groups that recognise the issues facing men and boys since even a small minority of feminists, such as Christina Hoff Sommers and Camille Paglia recognise and raise awareness of these issues.

In June 2025 the mainstream media reported on a study of the manosphere commissioned by Ofcom. The study argued that most participants were discriminating, value-driven and generally rejected extreme content.[1][2]

Around the same time the mainstream media began discussing the manosphere regularly and portraying it as a single entity.

As of 2026 Paul Elam has been leading the way in recapturing the term.
