Sabit Shontakbaev

Sabit Shontakbaev (born 1985) is a Kazakh man who performed a daring rescue of a three year old girl that was hanging outside of a residential building in Nur-Sultan, the capital of Kazakhstan. The rescue occurred on 11 May 2022.

Mr Shontakbaev stepped outside of the building through his eight story window and climbed on to the window in order to reach the child that was hanging from the window of the ninth floor immediately above him. Mr Shontakbaev was able to retrieve the child and bring her in to his apartment. The little girl was reportedly alone in her ninth story apartment.

Mr Shontakbaev is reportedly a father of four but is unrelated to the child he rescued.

A recording of the daring rescue made from a neighbouring building was widely viewed around the world. Mr Shontakbaev was called a hero by representatives of the Kazakhstan government and was awarded a medal for his actions.
