Research: Personal and Crisis Services With Regards To Their Usefulness For Male Victims - Australia

The Study

Services in Australia as with other places are limited - if they exist at all - in their offerings to men.

Beginning with the 1800Respect hotline, Australia's primary government funded Domestic Violence support service. This researched looked at the services listed in the support pages for this Domestic Violence Crisis hotline. Expansion beyond that to other unlisted services will happen in time. A final stage expanding into a user feedback system would allow updating and revision and be the best outcome for this project.

Data was collected in the first stage by looking at the 1800Respect website and evaluating the data there in. Data was collected in the second stage by looking at the individual service websites or a primary internet resource. Further research is done as required to support findings which may not be complete or clear. Final stage. Services found to show a pro-male outlook are contacted and questioned to provide the best results for men seeking help.

A star rating has been used in conjunction with findings using a -5 to +5 system used where 0 is a neutral position, the service not being clearly pro or anti male. The rating is based purely on the researchers subjective feelings about the services public presence. User input may apply any balance should it be required.

Findings.

In the first stage no male friendly services were found outside the fields of addiction and homelessness. Several services we very anti-male and some services offered no access for males over 12 even in the company of their mother. The most typical anti-male service was women's services which offered "behaviour Changing" only for male clients. Behaviour changing is pure feminist theory based on the principles of the Duluth Model and the idea of Toxic Masculinity. People attending these programs be they victim of offended are made to accept fully the blame for any and all aspects of abuse in their lives.

The second stage while incomplete will be published in parts as it develops. This is a volunteer project relying on those few people able to spare time and to have any part of it published is a bonus to those doing the work.

Input

Any and all input or assistance in completing the study is welcome. Assistance should be as neutral as possible so as to not bias the study to the point of it being easily refuted.

Next Step

Publication to this Wiki is the next step.

As soon as the formats can be sorted the first 400 second stage service finds can be published.
