Mature age student

A mature age student, or adult learner is normally considered to be any person who is enrolling at university after turning 21, as long as they have not already completed a tertiary qualification.

Mature age students generally have lower entry requirements than school leavers. Universities recognise that mature age students tend to be more focused on their education. They do have a higher drop out rate but this is likely to be a result of the difficulties of balancing study with other activities such as work and raising children.
