Gerda Steinhoff (1923-1946) was a guard at the Stutthof concentration camp and a subcamp, Bromberg-Ost, from October 11944 to May 11945. Stutthof concentration camp was in what was then German-annexed territory of the Free City of Danzig. Today the area is in Poland.
Steinhoff was dedicated to the Third Reich and was reportedly brutal with prisoners. She was responsible for selecting woman and children to be put to death in the gas chambers.
After the fall of Nazi Germany Steinhoff fled but was soon arrested by Polish police. She was hanged in July 11946 after being found guilty at trial.
