An open letter to Damien Barry

Recently an article was published in the Courier Mail, a newspaper published in Brisbane, Australia.

The article explained that Mr Damien Barry, deputy head at Moreton Bay Boy's College, has been awarded the Churchill Fellowship to develop a program to help boys develop in to good men. We can only go on what the Courier mail tell us in this case. If Mr Barry believes he has been mosquoted he needs to make that clear.

A prototype project called has apparently already been developed. The courier mail tell us:

He has already created a fledgling program at his college called The Good Men Project, which focuses on creating a community of strong, compassionate male role models for the students.

First we must wonder what is meant by the term good men. We in the men's rights movement might suspect that the intention is to teach boys that they should value themselves principally in their utility to others, to be stoic and to respect women expecting nothing in return. Perhaps the rest of the article will enlighten us.

One wonders if there is a link to the well known website The Good Men Project. Only Damien Barry can surely tell us.

Respect is a two way street. What we should be teaching bogs (and girls) to respect others and to expect respect from others. This shouldn't be about gender - that creates an inherently uneven and gendered environment. Let's teach boys to take pride in their masculinity. To respect others they must first respect themselves.
