Risk taking

Men are risk takers. They are far more likely to engage in risky behaviour than women. Understanding this one fact helps to explain much about human behaviour. Testosterone is the hormone of risk taking and confidence, whether this confidence is deserved or not.

  • Men are over-represented among the very successful (people who took a risk and won)
  • Men are over-represented among the very unsuccessful (people who took a risk and lost)
  • Men are over-represented among those who died young (people who took a risk and lost)
