Mount Holyoke College administrator and art professor Rie Hachiyanagi made international headlines when she was charged with the attempted murder of a regular member of the faculty on 23 December 2019.[1][2] Hachiyanagi allegedly used a fire poker, large rock, and a gardening shears to attempt to beat and kill her victim.[3] Hachiyanagi's alleged victim survived the attack.[4] Hachiyanagi pled guilty to the charges and on October 20, 2021, was sentenced to a term of 10 to 12 years in prison.[5]
