Leaving

It's often noted that women stay in violent relationships. Men do too, and men actually have reasons to stay in violent relationships that typically don't apply to women:

(1) Men who leave will generally be separated from their children.

(2) Men may also feel they need to stay to protect their children from a violent mother.

Women who leave generally get to take the children with them so neither of these will apply.
