In 2022 Watson made madia headlines for an incident unrelated to her online activism. Watson complained about being wedged between two overweight passengers on a US domestic flight. When she reported this incident to the airline, American Airlines, she was initially rebuffed. After media enquiries the airline reportedly compensated Watson.[2]
