The term invisible men refers to the many men doing dirty, difficult and dangerous jobs to keep society functioning.
Most people are only independent within the constraints of their society. In order to survive they rely on a large number of people they will never meet. These people are overwhelmingly men. They are often called the invisible men because so many people apparently can't see them.
