The Men’s Alternative Safe House (MASH) was a domestic violence shelter for men in Calgary, Alberta, Canada started by Earl Silverman in 2010. MASH closed in 2013 after Mr Silverman was unable to secure government funding to assist with the funding of the shelter. At the time of closure it was believed to be the only such shelter for men in Canada.[1] Mr Silverman took his own life soon after the shelter closed.
