Similarities
There are quite a few similaries between the 2025 federal Australian and Canadian elections.
- Both were won by centre left parties
- Both conservative parties were tipped to win in the months before the election but lost support over time
- The leaders of the main conservative parties lost their seats in both countries
- The leaders of the main far left parties lost their seats in both countries
- In each case one major party experienced a significant loss of seats
- Liberal Party in Australia
- The New Democratic Party in Canada
Differences
- The Canadian Liberals were returned with a minority government
- The Australian Labor Party was returned with a significant majority
Media Bias
The result of this election is comparable in seats to the 2013 Coalition victory, but with a far lower primary vote for the winner. The difference in the primary vote is under 3% in this election. It's really being over-hyped.

Of course Trump wouldn't know who the leader of the opposition of a middle power is.[1]
If Dutton had won the election Trump would have been briefed on him.
