Recently in Australia it has become fashionable to claim that two women die per week at the hands of their partners. This, it is claimed, is a doubling of the rate of a few years ago.[1] This figure is only achieved by taking a sample during an unusually high period. It is at best ignorant and at worst intellectual dishonest.

The previous claim of one woman per week is taken from Table 10 in Homicide in Australia:2008-09 to 2009-10 National Homicide Monitoring Program.[2] The same document shows male deaths as a result of DV to be around one per 10 days.

In fact DV rates have been in slight decline for years.
