The Dutch East India Company and the Hudson Bay company were quasi-states. In both cases they operated under the nominal supervision of a nation and eventually surrendered anything approaching state-like responsibilities to those nations.

Hezbollah is a quasi-state operating in Southern Lebanon. They will either end up a true state or collapse.

The Knights Templar were not a quasi-state but they rivalled European monarchs for power. They were destroyed for it. They weren't even threatening the European monarchs.
