ICMI 2014 was the inaugural ICMI conference.  The conference was originally scheduled to be held at the DoubleTree Hilton in Detroit but the hotel added additional conditions to the contract following threats of violence against staff, guests and the hotel itself.<ref>https://www.avoiceformen.com/a-voice-for-men/threats-of-violence-and-death-against-doubletree-hilton-in-detroit-over-mens-conference/</ref><ref>https://www.avoiceformen.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2014/05/AVFM-Security-Letter-REDACTED.pdf</ref>

Ultimately the conference did not proceed at the Hilton and an alternative venue was arranged.  The conference was subsequently held at the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States (VFW) Hall in Detroit 26-28 June.
